CAMP MANAGEMENT AND QUICK IMPACT PROJECTS

BEST is implementing different activities regarding the provision of assistance to the earthquake affected population in NWFP and AJK.BEST mobilized its resources in the field for provision of quick relief to the affected population.BEST implemented the project through the following arrangements:

Quick Impact Technical Mobile Teams (QIT Teams)

The Setup and reinforcement of Quick Impact Technical Teams (QIT Teams) to ensure rapid response capacity for technical intervention in site planning, site development / improvement and constructions, and water and sanitation activities in the spontaneous camps. The main objective of the QIT Teams is to provide support targeted at improving the camp layout and ensuring well functioning of essential facilities in already existing official and spontaneous camps (with more than 50 tents / families). The activities of QIT Teams will also include ensuring proper site planning and development for newly identified official camps. The teams were always mobile and intervene at different locations where there was a need. They include experienced craftsman like Technical Coordinators, Engineers, Mason, Plumbers, Electrician and Carpenters.The quick impact TMT began its activities from need assessment and end with construction activities in a systematic way. 

Camp Management Mobile Team (CMT)


The main objective of Camp Management Mobile Teams (CMT) is to continue to provide support to local NGOs and local communities in running spontaneous camps, raising awareness of local communities on specific topics to help them adopting to live in a camp-like situation and sustaining their copying mechanisms.
   
In close collaboration with the members of the Emergency Task Force (Camp Management Strategy Paper refers), the CMTs provided support in the decongestion of camps to ease overcrowding, prevent fire hazards and improve access to clean water and sanitation, raise awareness on hygiene and health precautions as well as on protection and security related matters (such as maintaining distance of cooking places from shelters, separation of latrines, provision of electricity, monitoring most vulnerable people access to assistance, gender issues etc.);


ACTIVITIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

The following activities were implemented:
  • Identification and Registration of vulnerable individuals in the camps:
  • Assessment of Planned, IDPs and spontaneous Camps
  • Extremely Vulnerable Individuals Identification and development of referral system
  • Awareness on Hygiene, Fire safety etc.
  • Establishment of committees
  • Distribution & Monitoring of NFIs
